SKF to showcase its marine portfolio at Asia Pacific Maritime

Time:26 Jan,2016
SKF will be presenting its broad range of product innovations for the marine industry at Asia Pacific Maritime in Singapore, 16-18 March. Gothenburg, Sweden, 22 January 2016: SKF will be presenting its complete marine product portfolio at the Asia Pacific Maritime 2016 trade show. Visitors to the exhibition will see a range of solutions that can boost marine machine performance and reliability, such as bearings, couplings, lubrication systems and the Simplex seal range. Among the products on show, will be the Simplex Net Protector that the company launched last year, a shaft seal solution to help protect the rear section of the sterntube seal against damage caused by fishing nets and lines. If a vessel is underway in an area where there are floating nets or lines, the Net Protector ring blocks them from getting entangled in the seal itself and thereby prevents consequential damage to the seal. “During many service call-outs we discovered that damage to the seal’s outer sealing ring would not have occurred if the Net Protector had been fitted. Most service call-outs do not allow much time for re-ordering parts, so our service technicians take a suitable Net Protector with them, which then on-site can directly be mounted onto the seal and our customers are impressed by the service”, says Patrick Arand, Product Manager Shaft Components. Also on show is the SKF’s Simplex SC3 Airspace seal which is designed to offer a void space – in terms of an air chamber - between the seawater and the sterntube oil. Thus, the seal is recognized as environmentally friendly, in terms of Vessel General Permit (VGP) 2013. Furthermore, SKF will exhibit condition monitoring solutions, such as the SKF Microlog. The product is a handheld device that can be used by on-board engineers to carry out portable data collection. The data can then be analyzed by ship engineers or, more commonly for critical equipment, be transmitted to a shore-based facility for interpretation by remote experts.
